What fits

These layouts use the designer’s own case outline and gear models, drawn to scale. The dashed line is the wall clearance: the designer keeps every item inside it.

A profile in the library is not proof that a combination fits; the designer checks placement as you go.

Two layers, two files

The designer opens the Apache on the upper insert. Switch to Lower to work on the layer underneath; the upper insert slides aside in the preview so you can see what you are doing. Planning view keeps the same framing while you switch.

Both inserts have a recessed handle at each end: you reach into the pocket and curl your fingers under a lip toward the middle, so either layer lifts straight out of the case. Gear can’t go over a handle or the lip above it, which is why both layouts above leave the middle of each end clear: on the upper, the magazines sit above and below the right handle; on the lower, the speedloader stands above that same handle.

Printing it

Both layers are bigger than most build plates. On a 256 mm Bambu Lab plate, each one needs at least four pieces with straight cuts, and even a 350 mm plate needs two. Plan the joints before you print: keep seams away from thin walls around cutouts, and don’t run one through a handle.

Test a single joint first. A connector that fits on its own can still change how the assembled insert sits in the case.

The factory foam

The Apache 3800 ships with pick-and-pull foam. Owners like the case and not the foam: “Foam sucks. Case is great!” (r/CAguns, 2026). Another describes it plainly: “the pick and pull just isn’t sturdy enough” (r/2011, 2024).

Replacing it isn’t cheap either. In 2024 one owner paid about $25 for a replacement set, close to what the case costs on sale. On a Gear Know-How video about this case, commenters spent a year asking to buy a printed insert file that didn’t exist (“Interested in buying the stl if available”).

A printed insert is one of several ways out. Compare the alternatives to pick-and-pluck foam, including made-to-order foam and modular grids.

Check your model before you print

This profile is the Apache 3800 only. Harbor Freight’s 2800, 4800 and other Apache sizes have different interiors and are not supported yet. If your case came from somewhere else and only looks like a 3800, measure it against the dimensions above before you print.
